Earthquakes
Here is an excerpt of the Finale of “Light in Winter”, a commissioned video we created for this weekend long festival of science, music and art. Using excellent high resolution images provided courtesy of The National Information Service for Earthquake Engineering at Berkeley (NISEE), and the original music created and played live by Judy Hyman of the Horseflies and many other members of the band. We used historical imagery, old woodcuts and prints, depicting some of the great earthquakes of the past. This film, along with several other short works, was created for the live performance of “Forces of Nature” at the Festival, and also featured geologist/engineer Dr. Charlie Trautmann explaining the physics of some of the forces of nature that we live with; and our engineering in response to earthquakes, tsunamis, volcanic eruptions, floods, and hurricanes.
